Young Arts

The Arts Society Midhurst Young Arts encourages and supports local schools with projects in the community. As a society we make an annual gift to support a student at West Dean College. It is a privilege to have an opportunity to make such a positive contribution to the training of a young restorer, and so helping to  ensure the future of our cultural heritage.

Easebourne 2021

In the spring we put forward a couple of paintings by a student at the Midhurst Rother Academy and one was accepted by The RBA and an online exhibition was held. Usually the exhibition is held at the Royal Overseas League in St James’ Street, London. It is the first time a local student has had his/her work selected so we are delighted for her!

In May The Arts Society Midhurst gave Easebourne Primary School £720 to buy a heat press machine and a white T shirt for every pupil. This was to print a logo, designed by a child, to provide an upbeat reminder that they were all back in school together. The machine can be used many times from now on to print onto fabric.

There were 4 age groups who were invited to draw a logo. Three came up with some excellent ideas and we chose the best in each category.

We also gave the primary school £34 to cover the cost of origami paper for each child in the school to make a crane (bird!) inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaski after Hiroshima, a book they have been learning about. These cranes are now hanging along the ceiling of the school hall.

We applied for a grant of £250 from the Patricia Fay Trust and we gave this to Easebourne Primary School for art materials for a new project in the Autumn Term.
